Letter from the Publishers

July, 2013

Welcome to this mid-summer (for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere) issue of 2e: Twice-Exceptional Newsletter.

Raising children is a demanding endeavor in general; but if those kids are twice exceptional, it can be even more challenging. In this issue we look at a resource that parents may turn to after other forms of assistance have fallen short — parent coaches. The authors of two of our feature articles explain what parent coaching is, how it differs from therapy, and the ways in which it can benefit families with 2e kids. In another of our feature articles, you’ll find out how a husband-and-wife parent coaching team puts their first-hand knowledge of twice exceptionality to work helping individuals and families resolve the issues that are holding them back.

Elsewhere in this issue you’ll find our usual columns and features plus a review of a new book on gifted students with learning disabilities. There’s also a follow-up to past coverage of a court case 2e Newsletter has been following involving a twice-exceptional student poorly served by his school district.

If you’re new to 2e Newsletter, please visit our website to see the listing of topics we’ve covered in the past. Back issues are available for purchase and past articles are free to subscribers in the subscribers-only area of our website.
